Rising costs and women's inequality - How can this be addressed through gender budget analysis?

September 28, 2023, 14.00 – 15.30

Online

Women are unjustly facing deepening levels of insecurity and hardship in Scotland. Rising costs are having a profound effect on women’s lives from skipping meals to increasing fears of losing their property/tenancy or missing health appointments due to travel costs. Attempting to manage or not being able to meet essential costs should not be a single experience, let alone a widespread experience.

Join the Scottish Women’s Budget Group for this online event where you will have the opportunity to:

- Explore the findings from our Women’s Survey 2023 that focus on the gendered experiences of the cost-of-living crisis, travel, and housing.

- Discuss how decision-makers and policymakers can use gender budget analysis to advance women’s equality in our society, especially in the context of local authority budgets.

- Hear from the Glasgow Disability Alliance and the Fa’Side Women and Girls Group as they present findings from their own surveys about women’s experiences of rising costs.

Gender budget analysis is a key tool for gender mainstreaming within the budgetary process. It invites decision-makers and policymakers to understand that how money is raised and spent impacts women and men differently.

The response to the issues raised in this event will require longer-term action in the form of a caring social security system, investment in care, and progressive taxation, including taxes on wealth, to support an economic recovery that works for women now and in the future.

Who can attend?

Anyone with an interest in advancing women’s equality is welcome.
